Don’t Mix Religion with Business

“Don’t Mix Religion with Business”

Dear Friends & Prayer Partners,

Have you heard the popular proverb, “Never talk about religion or politics – especially in business”? I’m sure you have, and I have been directly reminded of it several times (but not as often as I would expect). My observation is that those who mandate this piece of worldly wisdom are very adamant about it and not open to consider another viewpoint. One manager cut me off from making a lighting bid because I offered her an inspiring flyer. She said, “I don’t believe in mixing religion with business.” (In other words, “Don’t talk about anything really important!”) I told her that my relationship with my Lord has priority and is more important to me than business, but I wish that I had asked her this question: “Jesus taught me to treat other people as I want to be treated, so it is a vital part of my faith. Do you not wish for me to mix this principle of my faith with business when working with you?”

At any rate, I reject the above-mentioned popular proverb because it is not a Biblical proverb. Jesus told us to share His truth, His Good News with everyone. I have a higher commission and His wonderful promise, “Lo, I am with you always.” I realize that I will lose a few accounts this way, but my thankful heart rejoices in the fact that God is blessing and providing for us in Deighton Lighting, even during these tough economic times. Perhaps you are struggling with tough times financially, physically or emotionally. Here are some tremendous verses that inspire and sustain me. (All are from the New King James Version).

“Plead my cause and redeem me; Revive me according to Your word.” Psalm 119:154

“Great peace have those who love Your law, And nothing causes them to stumble.” Psalm 119:165

“My lips shall utter praise, for You teach me Your statutes. My tongue shall speak of Your Word, for all Your commandments are righteousness. Let Your hand become my help, For I have chosen Your precepts.” Psalm 119:171-173

“Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 124:8

“The Lord has done great things for us, whereof we are glad.” Psalm 126:3

“Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” Psalm 126:5-6
